I love canon cameras, they just do the job and never seem to let you down so their latest Ixus was the obvious choice when I needed one for a Christmas present.

I bought this one for my daughter who wanted a pink camera. Looks wise it is a stunning metallic pink, very classy and not over the top. It is very slim and feels well weighted in the hand. Buttons are well located and labelled. The build quality is fantastic.

Thanks to the face recognition software and a ton of settings it is easy to point and click, the MP count is great, and a 4 x optical lens is amazing in such a small package. The photos are very crisp, looking amazing on the excellent screen (not touch screen but that's not bad as fingerprints are too annoying!). In the flesh they are great on a Mac and print out as good as you would ever want. I use a Canon Pixma MP600R which is perfect (I am not paid by Canon, honest...). There are the usual settings included, various scenes (pet, beach, fireworks etc) and the ability to set things up manually, although pointing and clicking works very well.

Video is really nice, giving a good picture on my HD TV, the camera even has an HDMI connection. It won't replace a dedicated video camera but it is close. The required leads to connect via phono are included but not HDMI.

The Canon software was easily loaded on to a Macbook by my daughter with no help, it is very simple.

Any disappointments? Well, I now have 3 Canon (2 Ixus and 1 Powershot) cameras bought over the last year and they all take different batteries and therefore need different chargers - VERY annoying!

Obviously you need to buy a memory card - an 8Gb is now stupidly cheap and will enable you to take thousands of high res pictures and more HD video than you will need in one visit. Buy a couple just in case, the prices have tumbled. Also worth getting a cheap case to protect the screen.

A great camera, people who have seen it have already placed orders, it is that good. Highly recommended. (if you don't fancy pink it comes in other colours!)
